Iowa Celebrates Veterans Appreciation Weekend at Home Nov. 13 and 14

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The Iowa Wild (3-9-1-2, 9 points) were defeated by the Grand Rapids Griffins (2-7-0-0, 4 points) 5-2 in front of 5,277 fans at Van Andel Arena on Wednesday night. Griffins Colin Campbell and Nathan Paetsch scored 3:26 apart midway through the second period, giving their club a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish, ending a three-game losing skid. Forward Eric Tangradi added two goals for Grand Rapids in the first meeting of the season between the two clubs. Griffins goalie Jared Coreau (2-2-0-0) stopped 27 of 29 for the victory. Iowa forwards Brett Bulmer and Zack Mitchell each scored in the defeat. Iowa goalie Leland Irving (2-2-2-0) made 19 saves on 23 shots in the loss. The Wild returns home on Friday to host Rockford at 7 p.m.

Iowa jumped out to a 1-0 lead with the game’s first goal at 3:21 of the opening frame. Winger Kurtis Gabriel set up forward Brett Bulmer, who beat Jared Coreau for his first goal of the season and an early Wild lead.  Grand Rapids countered, tying the game 1-1 at 15:14 of the first period after Mitch Callahan scored his first goal of the year. Left wing Anthony Mantha tossed the puck to the net and Callahan tipped it past Leland Irving for the tie game. Defenseman Brian Lashoff also picked up an assist on Grand Rapids’ first goal.

The Griffins scored just 1:07 into the second period, as Eric Tangradi rang a shot off the inside post, beating Irving for his second goal of the year. Defenseman Nathan Paetsch and Coreau helped set up the goal off the breakout for a 2-1 lead.  Iowa countered 13 seconds later as Zack Mitchell found a loose puck and bolted into the Griffins zone on a breakaway. He beat Coreau with a wrist shot five-hole for his second goal of the year and the 2-2 score at 1:20. Grand Rapids would open a two-goal lead to close out the middle frame. Colin Campbell finished off a centering pass from Andy Miele off a rush into the Iowa zone. His second goal of the year was also assisted by Xavier Ouellet at 5:57. Paetsch scored off a back-door-feed from Miele at 9:23 of the second period. Paetsch beat Irving over the glove for his first goal of the year and a 4-2 Griffins lead.

With 1:54 left in the third period, Tangradi scored his second goal of the night, firing the puck into an empty Wild net for the 5-2 final.

Iowa returns home for a pair of games with the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 14. The Wild is wearing specialty jerseys for “Veteran Appreciation” weekend. Friday’s game features the “Bring Your Buds” ticket package, including one ticket, one 16 oz. Bud or Bud Light at the Wild game, one hot dog, one popcorn, $1 discount for 25 oz. cans of Bud or Bud Light during the game, and one free Bud or Bud Light at Carl’s Place. Friday is also a $2 beer night sponsored by 100.3 The Bus.

The Wild and IceHogs rematch the following day at 7 p.m. Veterans Appreciation Weekend continues on Saturday with ALS night. The team is hosting a live jersey auction benefitting ALS Association of Iowa Chapter following the game. The first 1,500 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild “Stars and Stripes” hat courtesy of Vatterott College and ALT 106.3. The “Legends Brewdog Pack” is also be available, including one ticket, beer, hot dog, and one free Bud or Bud Light at Legends American Grill.

Fans may purchase single-game tickets multiple ways, either through the team's website – www.Iowawild.com, the Wells Fargo Arena box office or participating Hy-Vee food stores. Tickets are available online at www.Iowawild.com under the single game tickets tab. The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play its 2015-16 season at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
