  IOWA WILD POWERS PAST TEXAS 4-2

Iowa and Texas Meet Again on Saturday 

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (5-2-0-0, 10 points) defeated the Texas Stars (5-4-2-0, 12 points) 4-2 in front of 5,609 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday night. Forward Erik Haula scored a pair of power-play goals helping Iowa beat Texas in the first meeting between the two clubs. Forwards Taylor Matson and Jason Zucker also scored, as Iowa connected for three power-play goals. Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper (3-2-0) made 32 saves for the win. Texas goalie Josh Robinson (1-1-0) stopped 15 Iowa shots in the loss. The Wild continues a five-game home stand with Texas at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena.

Just 5:12 into the first period, the Wild jumped out to a 1-0 lead with Erik Haula’s power-play goal. Defenseman Jon Landry played the puck to the Texas net and center Zack Phillips redirected the pass to Haula, who buried the team’s first power-play goal at home this season. The Wild made it 2-0 at 10:15 when Taylor Matson scored his second goal of the season. Winger Raphael Bussieres carried the puck down the left wing and centered for Matson, who tipped the puck past Josh Robinson for the two-goal lead.

In the second period, the Wild extended its lead to 3-0 off Haula’s second power-play goal of the night at 1:33. Defenseman Jonathon Blum and forward Kris Foucault worked the puck to the right wing faceoff circle for Haula. The rookie forward slipped by a defender and beat goalie Josh Robinson between the pads for his third goal of the season. The Stars got on the scoreboard at 14:47 of the period when Brendan Ranford scored off a rebound in front of the Wild goal. Forwards Toby Petersen and Chris Mueller each had an assist on the team’s first goal of the night.

The Stars trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at 6:42 of the final period, as Chris Mueller scored his fifth goal of the season. Texas forwards Travis Morin and Mike Hedden each had an assist on the power-play goal. Iowa regained its two-goal cushion at 8:54 of the final frame, when Jason Zucker connected for a power-play goal. Defensemen Jonathon Blum and Brian Connelly each had a hand in the goal. Blum zipped a cross-ice pass to set up Zucker for his second goal of the season - a one-timer that gave Iowa a 4-2 lead.  

The Wild remains at home with the Texas Stars on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:05 PM. The first 2,500 fans to Saturday’s will receive an Iowa Wild T-Shirt, presented by 97.3 NASH FM. It is also Ladies Night, featuring special promotions catered towards women and a chance to win lunch with Iowa Wild defenseman Corbin Baldwin. Iowa rounds out its five-game homestand on Sunday, Nov. 3 with the Milwaukee Admirals.
