Rematch Set for Monday Night

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (5-21-2-3, 15 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (12-10-6-0, 30 points) 3-2 Sunday afternoon in front of 4,787 fans at Wells Fargo Arena. Rampage defenseman Nikita Zadorov scored at 13:32 of the third period, pushing San Antonio past the Wild. Forward Christoph Bertschy tallied two assists, as Iowa saw its losing streak at home extended to 11 games. Iowa goalie Jeremy Smith (1-10-2) made 28 saves on 31 shots in the loss. Forwards Colin Smith and Reid Petryk each added a goal for the Rampage. Rampage goalie Roman Will (2-1-1) stopped 31 of 33 shots to snap the team’s seven-game losing streak. Forward Grayson Downing and defenseman Mike Reilly each scored a goal in the Iowa loss. The Wild and Rampage rematch tomorrow night at 7 p.m.

Rampage forward Colin Smith opened the scoring at 11:44 of the first period, giving San Antonio a 1-0 lead. Forward Mikko Rantanen and defenseman Cody Corbett each tallied an assist on the goal. Rantanen carried the puck into the zone, cutting across the slot. The rookie slid a pass back across the slot to Smith and he wristed the puck over the glove of a sprawled-out goalie Jeremy Smith for his ninth goal of the season. Wild forward Grayson Downing tied the game 1-1 at 14:57 of the period. Forwards Christoph Bertschy and Jordan Schroeder each earned an assist on the play. After heavy pressure in front of the net, Downing picked up his own rebound and slid the puck to the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.

Defenseman Mike Reilly scored at 5:11 of the second period, giving Iowa a 2-1 lead. Forwards Michael Keranen and Christoph Bertschy each tallied an assist on the power-play goal. Keranen took a pass from Bertschy at the point and slid the puck across the zone to Reilly. The rookie blasted a one-timer past Will and into back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Rampage forward Reid Petryk tied the game 2-2 at 10:08 of the period. Defensemen Hubert Labrie and Mason Geertsen each picked up an assist on the goal. Petryk got a pass from Labrie and carried the puck into the offensive zone. Cutting to the high slot, he snapped a shot on net and beat a screened Smith for his third goal of the season.

Defenseman Nikita Zadorov scored at 13:32 of the third period, giving the Rampage a 3-2 lead. Forwards Colin Smith and Borna Rendulic each tallied an assist. Zadorov carried the puck down the left boards before cutting across the slot. As he got to the front of the net he backhanded the puck off the right post and into the net for his sixth goal of the season.

The teams will rematch on Monday, Dec. 21 at 7 p.m. Monday’s game includes free parking (until the Iowa Events Center lots are full) sponsored by HITS 99.9. The game also includes a ticket special for fans that bring their student ID’s and buy a defense-preferred ticket, receiving a second ticket for only $0.99 courtesy of HITS 99.9. Iowa travels to Chicago on Dec. 26 before returning home for a game against the Rockford IceHogs on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. The Subway and Star 102.5 Combo pack is available for purchase for Sunday’s game. The combo pack includes one ticket, one hot dog, one soda, and one Subway coupon for $12. The Wild are also hosting a free postgame skate courtesy of Grip-Tite Foundation Repair and KIOA 93.3.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday. For Saturday game days, the box office will open at 10 a.m. For Sunday game days the box office will open at 12 p.m. Fans may also purchase tickets by calling 1-844-55-HYVEE or by visiting participating Hy-Vee food stores locations in the greater Des Moines area. The Iowa Wild 2015-16 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April.
