 ADMIRALS SAIL PAST IOWA WILD 5-2

Iowa Heads to Rockford This Weekend, Returns Nov. 13 for Chicago 

Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Wild (5-4-0-0, 10 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (6-0-2-0, 14 points) 5-2 in front of 3,042 fans at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday night. Milwaukee defenseman Bryan Rodney broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period and set up an insurance goal to help the Admirals remain undefeated in regulation this season. Milwaukee goalie Marek Mazanec (5-0-0) stopped 28 Iowa shots for the win. Wild defenseman Steven Kampfer had a goal and an assist in the team’s second straight defeat. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (2-1-0) made 22 saves in the loss. Forward Jason Zucker also scored for the Wild, which fell to 3-4-0-0 at home this season. The two teams combined for 23 penalties and 64 penalty minutes, to go along with 15 power plays. The Wild plays a pair of games in Rockford on Friday and Saturday at 7 PM.

In the first period, the Milwaukee Admirals got on the board first at 3:18 with a goal by forward Zach Budish. Milwaukee forwards Mark Van Guilder and Mikka Salomaki picked up the assists on Budish’s first goal of the year. Salomaki fired a pass along the front of the net, where Budish one-timed it in between the pads of Iowa goalie Johan Gustaffson. The Iowa Wild tied the game on a power play at 19:21 with a goal by forward Jason Zucker. Forward Erik Haula and defenseman Steven Kampfer each assisted on the goal. Kampfer fired a slap shot at the Milwaukee net.  Goalie Marek Mazanec kicked a rebound to Zucker, who scored his third goal of the year.

The Wild jumped in front 45 seconds into the middle period as Kampfer scored his first goal of the year. Fellow defender Brian Connelly and forward Stephane Veilleux each had an assist on the play. Kampfer skated coast to coast and beat Mazanec with a wrist shot from the right-wing wall for the 2-1 Wild lead. Milwaukee tied the game 2-2 late in the second period after forward Taylor Beck fired a shot just under the crossbar past the glove of Gustafsson at 19:24. Salomaki picked up his second assist of the game and defenseman Joe Piskula added the other assist.

Rodney scored the game-winning goal on the power play at 2:55 of the third period to give Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. Rodney skated around defender Haula and fired a wrister past the right shoulder of Gustaffson. It was his first goal of the season. Forwards Patrick Cehlin and Joonas Rask picked up the assists on the play. Milwaukee increased its lead to 4-2 at 11:21 with a goal by Cehlin, assisted by Rodney and forward Mark Van Guilder. Cehlin jammed home a lose puck past a sprawling Gustaffson. The goal marked Cehlin’s second point of the game. Mark Van Guilder scored an empty-net goal at 18:52 for the 5-2 final.

The Wild will play two games in Rockford, starting on Friday, Nov. 8 and concluding on Saturday, Nov. 9. Both games are scheduled for a 7 PM faceoff at the BMO Harris Bank Arena. Iowa returns for a six-game homestand, which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7:05 PM against the Chicago Wolves. The Wild will also welcome San Antonio on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:05 PM. Friday night’s game is a $2.00 Beer Night, featuring $2.00 ten-ounce drafts, presented by 100.3 The Bus. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used winter coats for the team’s clothing drive, presented by G & L Clothing. Fans who make a donation will be rewarded with tickets to an upcoming Iowa Wild home game. The team will conclude a weekend set on Saturday, Nov. 16 with the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans (12 and under) will be given an Iowa Wild Youth Jersey. Fans may purchase the Subway Family Four Pack for the game, which features four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas and Subway coupons starting at $44.
