IOWA WILD ANNOUNCES FULL 2021-22 SCHEDULEJul 23, 2021
DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa Wild and the American Hockey League announced today the 2021-22 schedule. The Wild is returning to a full AHL schedule next season, complete with 72 regular season games.
For just the second time in team history and the first time in seven seasons, the Wild open their regular season away from Wells Fargo Arena. Iowa heads to Texas to take on the Stars on Oct. 16, 2021 at H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. The following weekend features two games against the Rockford IceHogs at Wells Fargo Arena, including the home opener on Oct. 22, 2021. The Wild’s longest home stands (six games) are Dec. 14 through New Year’s Eve and Mar. 12 through Mar. 27. Iowa’s lengthiest stretch away from Des Moines is also six games, running from Apr. 1 to Apr. 10.
The home schedule is comprised of 26 weekend games (12 on Friday, nine on Saturday, and five on Sunday) and 10 weekday matchups (three on Monday, four on Tuesday, one on Wednesday and two on Thursday). December includes eight contests at home, the most of any month, February and March have six, November and January both feature five, April contains four and October has only two matchups at home. January and April have the Wild playing the most total games, 13, while October has only six total games.
For the first time in franchise history, the Wild have the Henderson Silver Knights on their schedule. Iowa hosts Henderson on Mar. 12 and Mar. 13 at Wells Fargo Arena as a part of four total games against the AHL Affiliate of the Vegas Golden Knights. Other Pacific Division opponents include four game sets with the Colorado Eagles, San Diego Gulls and Tucson Roadrunners (two home, two road). For the first time since the 2019-20 season, Iowa clashes with the Milwaukee Admirals, who opted out of the 2020-21 AHL season. The two clubs will meet ten times (five home, five road) in 2021-22. Other Central Division foes include 12 games with Rockford (six home, six road), 10 games with Chicago (five home, five road) and eight games each with Grand Rapids, Manitoba and Texas (four home, four road).
