Fifth Anniversary Season Begins At Home On Oct 7

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild, in conjunction with the AHL, announced on Tuesday the 2017-18 regular season schedule. In addition, the AHL club revealed its fifth anniversary logo.

Iowa’s fifth anniversary season begins at Wells Fargo Arena on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. with central division rival Milwaukee. It marks the fourth time in five years that the Iowa Wild open at home. The Wild and Admirals will play again on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m., rounding out a two-game set in Des Moines. Six of Iowa’s first seven regular season games will be played at Wells Fargo Arena, and 11 of the team’s first 14 outings will be played on home ice. Iowa’s first road game occurs on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Rockford in a face-off with the IceHogs at 6 p.m.

The Wild meets the Tucson Roadrunners for the first time in AHL history in Tucson on Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. After the two-game visit to Arizona, Iowa returns home for five straight with visits from San Antonio, Rockford and Cleveland.  The annual Wild About Education School Field Trip game lands in the middle of the homestand on Nov. 9, with Rockford visiting Iowa for the 10:30 a.m. faceoff. Last year, Iowa broke its own record when 13,121 fans filled the arena for the school-day game, the largest crowd to witness a professional hockey game in the state of Iowa. The Wild will help the Hogs with their school-day game at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 15 in Rockford.

The Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins will face Iowa for the first time with a visit to Des Moines on Fri., Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. 11 of the team’s next 14 games will be on the road as Iowa ventures to Rockford, Chicago, San Antonio, Grand Rapids, Texas, Milwaukee and Cleveland. Iowa welcomes Grand Rapids again on Fri, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. for the final game prior to the holiday break. Iowa rings in the new year with a visit from the Chicago Wolves at 12 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

The team will make two trips to Canada to meet division rival Manitoba in Winnipeg, MB starting Jan. 13 and 14. Shortly after, Iowa welcomes the Bakersfield Condors for the first time in AHL history on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.

After the all-star break, the Wild ventures out on a five-game road trip that starts in Cleveland and ends with a California swing. The trip includes the club’s first ever stop in Bakersfield, as well as return visits to San Diego and Ontario. The Wild returns home for a massive five-game homestand from Feb. 9-19 with Chicago, San Antonio, Rockford and Texas. Pink in the Rink highlights the stretch on Saturday, Feb. 10 against Rockford at 6:00 p.m. Iowa hosts Texas in a special start time on Monday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. to celebrate Presidents Day.

After the lengthy stretch, Iowa plays ten of the next 11 games away from home ice. The team will only play one home game from Feb. 20 – Mar. 18. The mid-march home game pits Iowa against Manitoba at Wells Fargo Arena on Mar. 11 at 3 p.m.

Iowa has a strong stretch of home games to wrap up the regular season with nine of the final 13 in Des Moines. Aside from division rivals Milwaukee, Cleveland, Chicago and Rockford, Iowa will host Tucson for the first time in AHL history on Mar. 30 and Mar. 31. Iowa hosts its final home game of the regular season on Friday, Apr. 13 at 7 p.m. with the Milwaukee Admirals. The Wild ends its fifth regular season at Milwaukee on Saturday, Apr. 14 at 6 p.m.
