Rookie All Star Gets First NHL Callup

DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced on Thursday the National Hockey League (NHL) team has recalled forward Alex Tuch (Tuck) from the Iowa Wild, Minnesota’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. Iowa Wild General Manager Brent Flahr also announced on Thursday the team has signed forward Alex Petan to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Tuch, 20 (5/2/96), has collected 22 points (11-11=22) and 16 penalty minutes (PIM) in 34 games during his rookie season with Iowa. The 6-foot-4, 217-pound native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., has tallied six points (4-2=6) in his last four games and leads the team with a plus-10 rating, ranks second in goals and T-2nd in scoring. He represented Iowa at the AHL All-Star Classic and tallied three points (2-1=3) to help the Central Division win the AHL All-Star Game on Monday.

Tuch recorded 62 points (32-30=62) in 77 games during two seasons at Boston College. He tallied 34 points (18-16=34) in 40 games in his sophomore campaign last year as the Eagles advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four. Tuch led Boston College in scoring and ranked second in goals in 2014-15 and was named to the 2015 Hockey East All-Rookie Team. He represented the United States at the 2015 World Junior Championship and won a gold medal with the United States at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship. Tuch was originally selected by Minnesota in the first round (18th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and has not appeared in a NHL game. He will wear jersey No. 53 with the Wild.

Petan, 24 (5/2/92), scored once and added an assist in three games for Iowa earlier this year. He started his rookie season with the Quad City Mallards, Iowa’s ECHL affiliate. In 39 games with the Mallards, the 5-foot-9 forward scored 13 goals and added 15 assists for 28 points. He is 16th among all ECHL rookies in points. Overall, Petan placed second on the Mallards in goals, third in points and fourth in assists. The Delta, BC native turned pro on Mar. 25, 2016, signing an ATO with Iowa and making his pro debut against the Chicago Wolves. Petan recorded his first AHL point with an assist on Mar. 30 versus Manitoba. In 10 total games for Iowa last spring, he scored once and added three assists for four points. Petan attended training camp with the Minnesota Wild and Iowa Wild in 2016.

Iowa concludes a five-game road trip in Cleveland this weekend and returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to play the Cleveland Monsters. The game is part of Winning Wednesdays. The team dons “Pink In The Rink” themed jerseys, which are auctioned off after the game in a live postgame jersey auction.The first 7,500 fans to the game receive a Pink LED giveaway, sponsored by Susan G. Komen Greater Iowa, KISS FM and Food Dudes. Fans 21 and over may enjoy Jim Beam Drink specials, sponsored by NASH FM. The Brewdog pack is also available, where fans get a ticket to the game, hot dog voucher, beer at the game and a voucher for a drink at Legends.
