Iowa Goalie Earns Midseason Extension
DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Thursday announced the NHL club has re-signed goaltender Alex Stalock to a two-year contract (one-way contract for $650,000 in 2017-18 and a two-way contract for $650,000/$300,000 in 2018-19).
Stalock, 29, is 14-10-4 with a 2.56 goals-against average (GAA), a .916 save percentage (SV%) and two shutouts in 29 games with Iowa in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. The 6-foot, 187-pound native of South St. Paul, appeared in 13 games with the San Jose Sharks last season going 3-5-2 with a 2.94 GAA and a .884 SV%. He is 24-19-7 with a 2.37 GAA, a .911 SV% and four shutouts in 62 career NHL games during parts of five seasons with San Jose (2010-16) and 0-1 with a 2.05 GAA and a .929 SV% in three Stanley Cup playoff contests. Stalock is 95-65-14 with a 2.59 GAA, a .911 SV% and nine shutouts in 179 career AHL matches. He was originally drafted by San Jose in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1, 2016.
Stalock played three seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth (2006-09) and ranked first in the NCAA in minutes played and led the Bulldogs to the WCHA playoff championship and the NCAA West Regional Final in 2009. He was named to the NCAA West First All-American Team and the WCHA First All-Star Team in 2009 and the WCHA All-Rookie Team in 2007. Stalock played for Cedar Rapids in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for two seasons (2004-06) and was named the 2006 USHL Goaltender of the Year and the 2005 USHL Playoff MVP as Cedar Rapids won the Clark Cup. He helped South St. Paul High School to the 2004 Minnesota Class A State Hockey Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Iowa plays in Cleveland on Friday at 6 PM CT. Iowa concludes its five-game road trip on Saturday and returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to play the Cleveland Monsters. The game is part of Winning Wednesdays. If the Wild wins, all fans in attendance receive a free ticket to Fan Appreciation on April 14. Fans 21 and older may purchase two tallboys for $10. Iowa welcomes the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The team honors all local service personnel with Local Heroes night, presented by Great Clips. On Feb. 11 at 7 PM the Wild and Griffins meet again as the team celebrates Pink in the Rink Night in a partnership with Susan G. Komen Greater Iowa. Pink in the Rink is sponsored by KISS FM, Ankeny Allstate, UnitedHealthcare, Edwards, Universal Printing and Platos Closet. The team dons “Pink In The Rink” themed jerseys, which are auctioned off after the game in a live postgame jersey auction.The first 7,500 fans to the game receive a Pink LED giveaway, sponsored by Susan G. Komen Greater Iowa, KISS FM and Food Dudes. Fans 21 and over may enjoy Jim Beam Drink specials, sponsored by NASH FM. The Brewdog pack is also available, where fans get a ticket to the game, hot dog voucher, beer at the game and a voucher for a drink at Legends.
