Iowa Heads to Rockford on Saturday

ROSEMONT, IL – The Iowa Wild (26-23-6-2, 60 points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (33-17-4-3, 73 points) 4-3 in overtime on Sunday in front of 7,006 fans at Allstate Arena. Center Wade Megan capped off a Chicago comeback, scoring his second goal of the game 24 seconds into overtime and lifting the Wolves over the Wild.  Chicago defenseman Vince Dunn scored twice in the third period, helping his club erase a 3-1 deficit and force overtime. The Wild still earns a point in the overtime loss, largely in part due to the Tyler Graovac’s hat trick, the second in team history. Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington (10-6-4) stopped 25 of 28 shots for the win, his club’s fifth straight over Iowa this season. Iowa goalie Alex Stalock (16-12-7) made 19 saves in defeat. Chicago Kenny Agostino played the puck to the point and defenseman Jordan Schmaltz launched a shot towards the Iowa net. Megan tipped the puck past Stalock for the game’s first goal and a 1-0 lead.

The Wild evened the scoreboard just 1:37 into the middle frame off Tyler Graovac’s second goal in as many nights. Center Grayson Downing started the play, carrying the puck out of the Iowa zone and up the right-wing wall. Downing swept in over the Chicago blue line and snuck a pass to the slot for Graovac, who tapped the puck past Binnington for his fifth goal of the season and a 1-1 tie. Iowa used its power play to take the club’s first lead of the night at 16:25 of the middle period. Off a faceoff, defenseman Gustav Olofsson played the puck to the front of the Chicago net. Graovac, camped out in the crease, took the pass and slipped a backhand shot past Binnington for his second goal of the night and sixth goal of the season, giving Iowa a 2-1 lead.

Graovac tapped in the power-play tally for his sixth goal of the season and a 3-1 lead. Chicago used its power play to pull within a goal at 6:31 of the third period. Center Wade Megan won an offensive faceoff back to Schmaltz. He worked the puck to the point, where defenseman Vince Dunn blasted his 10th goal of the season past Stalock for the 3-2 game. The Wolves took advantage of a late power play, tying the game 3-3 with 2:24 remaining in regulation. Rookie Samuel Blais and Agostino helped work the puck to the point for Dunn. He fired a shot past Stalock for his second of the game and 11th goal of the season for the 3-3 score.
