Iowa Heads To Charlotte For Two-Game Visit Starting Tuesday at 6 PM CT

DES MOINES, IA  – The Iowa Wild (30-24-6-2, 68 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (36-21-3-3, 78 points) 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 11,074 fans at Wells Fargo Arena. Rookie newcomer Gerald Mayhew scored twice for Iowa in the win over Milwaukee. Wild goalie Steve Michalek (11-11-1) stopped 27 of 28 shots in the victory. Forwards Zack Mitchell and A.J. Jenks also each scored for Iowa. The Wild set a new team record for points in a season, surpassing the 67 points from the 2013-14 season. The team also reached the 30-win plateau for the first time ever. Admirals goalie Jonas Gunnarsson (3-6-2) stopped 19 of 23 shots in the loss. Forward Stephen Perfetto scored the lone goal for Milwaukee. Iowa heads to Charlotte for a two-game visit starting on Tuesday at 6 PM CT.

Iowa opened the scoring at 3:35 of the first period. Forward Gerald Mayhew scored his first professional goal, giving the Wild an early 1-0 lead. The power-play goal was assisted by forwards A.J. Jenks and Pat Cannone. Jenks shot the puck from the right-wing circle and Mayhew scored off the rebound. Forward Zack Mitchell extended Iowa’s lead to 2-0 at 6:33 of the opening frame. Mitchell’s 10th goal of the season was set up by forward Sam Anas. Mitchell fired the puck from the right-wing wall and the puck hit off the skate of Admirals goalie Jonas Gunnarsson.

Admirals forward Stephen Perfetto made it a 2-1 game at 14:38 of the second period. Perfetto’s first professional goal was set up by forward Frederick Gaudreau. Gaudreau centered the puck from the right-wing side and Perfetto beat Michalek on the stick side.

At 1:49 of the third period, Mayhew scored his second professional goal and second of the night for the Wild. The goal was set up by forward Colton Beck and defenseman Mike Reilly. Beck passed the puck from behind the net to Mayhew who scored from the right-wing circle. Forward A.J. Jenks scored for the Wild at 17:19 of the third period. Jenks’ first goal of the season was unassisted. Jenks forced a turnover at the Milwaukee blueline and scored from the left-wing circle for a 4-1 final.

After a brief road trip with two games in Charlotte and two in Cleveland, Iowa returns home to play the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday, March 28 at 7 PM. It is Kids Eat Free night, presented by Goodhue-Nolte Insurance and 96.5 Country. Fans may bring in a Subway receipt to purchase a ticket for only $5. It is also a mug club night.

Iowa welcomes the Chicago Wolves on Friday, March 31 at 7 PM. The Race Car night is presented by NAPA Auto Parts and Freedom Tires. The first 1,500 fans to arrive at the game receive a family car decal presented by Star 102.5. It is also $2 beer night presented by 100.3 The BUS. Collegeville packs are available for purchase at the game, sponsored by KISS FM and Buffalo Wild Wings. The St. Patrick’s Day themed specialty jerseys, worn by the Iowa Wild for all three home games in March, are auctioned off at the live postgame jersey auction on Friday, Mar. 31.
