Iowa Hosts Wild About Education Day at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wild (2-7-0-0, 4 points) were defeated by the Oklahoma City Barons (4-2-2-0, 10 points) 4-2 in front of 2,632 fans at the Cox Convention Center on Sunday. The Barons erased a 1-1 tie with three unanswered goals by the end of the second period, completing a weekend sweep of the Wild. Oklahoma City had four different goal scorers, improving to 3-2-0-0 at home this season. Barons goalie Richard Bachman (2-1-0) stopped 24 of 26 Iowa shots for the win. Iowa goalie Johan Gustafsson (2-5-0) made 30 saves in defeat. Wild forwards Zack Phillips and Michael Keranen each scored in the loss, as the Wild dropped to 1-4-0-0 on the road this season. The Wild returns home to host Rockford at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Oklahoma City opened the scoring at 10:11 of the first period off a power-play goal by Andrew Miller. Forwards Matt Ford and Anton Lander each set up the play, as Miller stuffed in a rebound for his second goal of the year and a 1-0 Barons lead. Iowa countered to tie the game 1-1 at 16:28 of the first period with a power-play goal of its own. Zack Phillips finished off a play, spinning to find a rebound and firing the puck past Richard Bachman for his second goal of the year. Forward Ryan Walters and defenseman Stu Bickel each had an assist on the tally. The Barons answered back to reclaim the lead at 2-1 with a redirection by Jason Williams at 17:53. Williams tipped a point shot by defenseman David Musil for his fifth goal of the season. Martin Gernat added an assist on the final goal of the period.
The Barons expanded their lead to 3-1 at 6:32 of the second period as Jordan Oesterle tallied his third goal of the season. Forwards Steve Pinizzotto and Kale Kesey each had an assist on the play. Oesterle scooped up a pass off the rush as the trailer and rifled a shot from the right-wing circle, beating Gustafsson for the two-goal cushion. Oklahoma City made it 4-1 at 18:40 of the middle frame after CJ Ludwig scored his first AHL goal. Curtis Hamilton helped set up the play, finding Ludwig at the Iowa blueline. Ludwig wristed a shot from the right point that floated through traffic and past Gustafsson.
The Wild cut the deficit in half just 5:42 into the third period when rookie Michael Keranen scored his third goal of the year. Rookie Kurtis Gabriel and center Brett Sutter each had an assist on the tally, as Iowa cut the Oklahoma City lead to 4-2.
Iowa returns home for a three-game home stand. The Wild returns home on Thursday, Nov. 6 to host Rockford at 10:30 a.m. Thursday’s game with the IceHogs is also School Field Trip Day, where the first 5,000 fans receive an Iowa Wild drawstring backpack, compliments of KJJY. Iowa rounds out its home stand against Chicago with a two-game series at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Saturday night is Ladies Night, where the first 2,500 fans receive an Iowa Wild ice scraper sponsored by Greater Iowa Credit Union. All ladies (21 and over) may purchase glasses of wine for a $1.00 discount. The Wild will also host Special Olympics Night on Saturday. Sunday is Pucks N’ Paws day, where the first 2,500 fans receive pet tags, compliments of Anderson Animal Hospital. Fans may bring their dog to the game with the purchase of a special $14 ticket, with $2 going back to the Animal Rescue League. Fans are invited to bring a pet food item to donate, for which they receive a free ticket to an upcoming Iowa Wild game. It is also a Subway Family Four Pack game, where fans may purchase four tickets, four sodas and four hot dogs, starting at $48.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team’s 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
