WHITE DEFEATS GREEN 5-3

Iowa Heads To North Dakota To Play Manitoba in Pair of Preseason Games

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild White team defeated the Green team 5-3 in the annual Green-White scrimmage on Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. White team forward Sam Anas scored twice and added an assist to help lead his team to victory. White team defenseman Matt Caito tallied a goal and had an assist to help the cause.  White goalie Christian Frey stopped 11 shots in the win. Green goalie Adam Vay stopped 11 shots in the loss. Green forward Gerald Mayhew also tallied a goal and an assist in the defeat. Iowa heads to North Dakota for a pair of preseason games against Manitoba on Friday and Saturday.

White team forward Sam Anas opened the scoring at 7:46 of the first period. Defenseman Jason Binkley and forward Danny Smith helped give the White team the 1-0 lead. White forward Dante Salituro made it a 2-0 game at 9:40 of the first period. The goal was set up by forward Mario Lucia. White defenseman Matt Caito made it a 3-0 game at 12:12 of the first period. Forwards Anas and Justin Kloos assisted the goal. Green team forward Pavel Jenys made it a 3-1 game at 14:52 of the first period. Forward Gerald Mayhew and defenseman Dylan Labbe assisted the goal. At 16:40 of the period, White team forward Colton Beck scored from the low slot. Caito centered the puck to Beck to help make it a 4-1 game at the end of the opening frame.

Anas scored his second goal of the night at 12:01 of the second period and gave the white team a 5-1 lead. The goal was assisted by Kloos. Mayhew made it a 5-2 game at 15:28 of the second period. The shot from the slot beat white goalie Christian Frey. Green forward Adam Gilmour scored at 19:15 of the second period to make it a 5-3 final score in favor of white.

After the scrimmage the two teams took part in a full-team shootout. The White team won the shootout 5-4. Brennan Menell, Josh Elmes, Jason Binkley, Mario Lucia and Sam Anas each scored for the white team. Kenton Miller, Darik Angeli, Evan Janssen and Gustav Bouramman each scored for the green team in the shootout.

The Iowa Wild plays a pair of preseason games, both will be in North Dakota against the Manitoba Moose – the Winnipeg Jets AHL affiliate. Iowa and Manitoba meet at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.  The two teams play a second preseason game at the Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.

Opening Night 2017 for the Iowa Wild is slated for Saturday, Oct. 7 with a visit from the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. Opening night and the Wild’s fifth anniversary season is presented by Mercy and Bankers Trust. The first 1,500 fans to arrive at the game receive a five-year anniversary banner sponsored by Bankers Trust. It is also a Jim Beam night where fans may purchase a $5 Jim Beam vanilla or a $10 Jim Beam vanilla in a mason jar. The Brewdog pack is also available for purchase at the game.  

Iowa welcomes Milwaukee again on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. It’s Kids Fall Festival night. The first 1,500 fans to arrive at the game receive an Iowa Wild cling schedule sponsored by BUS 100.3 and Hicklin Garage. Fans may bring in a Subway receipt and purchase a ticket for only $5. The Subway combo pack is also available for purchase at the game. There is a postgame skate following the conclusion of the game presented by Smock Industries and NASH Icon.
