IOWA ASSIGNS CAITO AND MICHALEK TO RAPID CITY

Iowa Wild To Host Rockford Wednesday at 7 PM

DES MOINES, IA – Iowa Wild General Manager Brent Flahr on Tuesday announced the American Hockey League (AHL) club has assigned goalie Steve Michalek (migh-kuh-leck) and defenseman Matt Caito (kay-toe) to the Rapid City Rush – Iowa’s ECHL affiliate.

Michalek, 23 (8/6/93), has yet to make his season debut. He posted a 13-14-1 record with a 2.63 GAA, .919 SV% and one shutout in 30 games with the Iowa Wild in 2016-17. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound native of Hartford, Conn., has totaled a 20-19-3 record with a 2.63 GAA, .916 SV% and one shutout in 44 games with Iowa during his first two seasons of professional hockey (2015-17). The former Harvard University goalie was originally selected by Minnesota in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Caito, 23 (8/13/93), has yet to make his season debut. He enters his second professional season in 2017-18 after splitting his rookie campaign between the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. In 13 games with Grand Rapids, the Coto de Caza, CA native scored one goal and totaled two points. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder also played in 23 games for Toledo, posting eight goals and compiling 14 points. He provided a boost to Toledo in the playoffs, suiting up in 17 Kelly Cup playoff games and tying for the team lead among defensemen in postseason scoring with nine points (1g-8a).

Caito turned pro in the spring of 2016, playing in eight games for Toledo with two goals and five points. The second-year pro completed a four-year career at Miami University in 2016. Over that span, Caito scored 16 goals and added 56 assists for 72 points in 151 games for the RedHawks.

The Wild hosts the Rockford IceHogs in Des Moines on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. It is Wine Wednesday with $2 off Barefoot refresh presented by Barefoot Wine. 

After a pair of road games in Tucson, Iowa returns home to meet the San Antonio Rampage on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. It’s Dollar dog night with $1 hotdogs, $1 pretzels and $1 small popcorns - presented by LAZER 103.3. Trivia night takes place in “The Fort,” previously known as the River’s Edge Restaurant, before the game.

Iowa and San Antonio faceoff again on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. It is a Bus beer night with $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. There is also a coat drive at the game. Fans receive a free weekday ticket voucher with a donation.
