LATE SURGE FALLS SHORT, ADMIRALS WIN 5-4

Iowa Welcomes the Ontario Reign on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (0-2-0-0, 0 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (2-0-0-0, 4 points) 5-4 in front of 4,212 fans on Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Despite a late charge with two goals in the last four minutes, Iowa was swept in the weekend series by Milwaukee. Admirals forward Frederick Gaudreau tallied a goal and an assist in the win over the Wild. Defenseman Trevor Murphy tallied two assists to help lead Milwaukee to victory. Admirals goalie Anders Lindback (2-0-0) stopped 22 of 26 shots in the win. Wild goalie Niklas Svedberg (0-2-0) stopped 18 of 22 shots in the defeat. Forward Pat Cannone scored twice in the Iowa loss. Iowa rookie defenseman Brennan Menell scored his first pro goal and added an assist for his first pro points. Iowa welcomes the Ontario Reign on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.

Milwaukee opened the scoring at 9:14 of the first period. Admirals forward Tyler Kelleher scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway. Kelleher blocked a shot from an Iowa defender at the Milwaukee blueline, racing away to score and give the Admirals a 1-0 lead. Iowa answered 37 seconds later at 9:51 of the period. Forward Pat Cannone tied the game with his first goal of the year. Forwards Colton Beck and Kurtis Gabriel helped tie the game, each with an assist on the play. Beck passed the puck to Cannone from behind the Milwaukee net and Cannone scored from the left side, squeezing the puck between Lindback and the left-goal post. Admirals forward Vladislav Kamenev gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead at 13:34 of the first period. The goal was assisted by forward Justin Kirkland, as well as defenseman Andrew O’Brien. Kirkland passed the puck up to Kamenev, who jumped out of the penalty box, then skated away to beat Svedberg on a breakaway.

Admirals left winger Anthony Richard made it a 3-1 game at 1:44 of the middle frame. Richard’s second goal of the season was set up by defenseman Trevor Murphy. Richard tipped in Murphy’s shot from the point.

Iowa rookie defenseman Brennan Menell made it a 3-2 game just 2:29 into the third period. Menell’s first pro goal was set up by forwards Zack Mitchell and Gerald Mayhew. Menell’s wrist shot from the right-wing circle beat Lindback on the stick side. At 10:33 of the third period, forward Harry Zolnierczyk extended Milwaukee’s lead to 4-2. His first goal of the year was set up by Murphy and forward Frederick Gaudreau on the power play. Zolnierczyk beat Svedberg on the glove side from the low slot. Gaudreau scored an empty-net goal for Milwaukee at 16:32 of the period, making it a 5-2 game. His first goal of the season was set up by defenseman Jack Dougherty. Iowa rookie forward Luke Kunin made it a 5-3 game at 16:36 of the third period. Beck helped set up Kunin’s first goal of the season. Cannone scored his second goal of the year at 19:28 of the third period. The goal was assisted by Menell, as well as defenseman Alex Grant and made it a 5-4 final score in favor of the Admirals.

Iowa takes on the Ontario Reign on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. It is a Bus Beer night with $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. The first 1,500 fans to arrive receive an Iowa Wild poster schedule sponsored by TS Construction, KXNO, Edwards Printing and Napa Auto Parts. There is also a costume for kids drive at the game presented by LAZER 103.3. Fans who donate receive a free weekday ticket voucher.

After a road game in Rockford, the Wild returns home to meet the Manitoba Moose on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. Ladies Night is presented by Style Encore. It is also a Bus Beer night with $2 beers presented by 100.3 The Bus. There is also a $2 off Barefoot Refresh special presented by Barefoot Wine. The Collegeville ticket special is available for purchase at the game presented by KISS FM.

Iowa and Manitoba faceoff again on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. There is a pregame tailgate party, showcasing the local concert series performance. Decoy performs from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the South Side Patio. Fans may purchase two tallboys for $10 for the local concert series. The Brewdog pack is also available for purchase at the game.
