Defenseman Inks NHL Two-Way Contract With Minnesota

DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher on Tuesday announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Mike Weber to a one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

Weber, 29 (12/16/87), has totaled eight points (1-7=8) in 54 games with Iowa in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, ranking second on the club with 92 penalty minutes (PIM) and third with a plus-5 rating while serving as team captain. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound native of Pittsburgh, Pa., has totaled 53 points (9-44=53) and 437 PIM in 351 career games during parts of eight NHL seasons with Buffalo (2007-2016) and Washington (2015-16), adding 51 points (8-43=51) and 517 PIM in 235 career AHL games. Last season, he totaled five points (1-4=5) and 32 PIM in 35 games with Buffalo before registering 28 PIM in 10 games with Washington. The blueliner totaled one assist and 6 PIM in seven playoff games with Buffalo in 2011 and skated in two playoff games with Washington last season. He was originally selected by Buffalo in the second round (57th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

After a six-game road trip with stops in Chicago, Rockford, Texas and Milwaukee, Iowa returns home to play the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday, Mar. 18 at 6 PM at Wells Fargo Arena. The St. Patrick’s Day game features a postgame concert with Gaelic Storm, sponsored by 100.3 The Bus, Jim Beam and My Satellite Guy. VIP packages are available starting at $20. The first 1,500 fans to the game receive an Iowa Wild Irish themed hat, sponsored by 95 KGGO and LIUNA.  In a partnership with Jim Beam and NASH FM, fans 21 and older are able to purchase the “The Big Ginger” drink special.  It is also Jim Beam Night. Subway Combo Packs are available for purchase at the game. Brewdog packs are also available for purchase at the game, presented by Legends American Grill and Bud Light. The Wild will also don St. Patrick’s Day themed specialty jerseys for the game. The team wears the specialty jerseys for all three home games in March, culminating with a live postgame jersey auction on Saturday, Mar. 31.

The Wells Fargo Arena box office is open Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday.
