Goalie To Join NHL Club For Stanley Cup Playoffs

DES MOINES, IA – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled goaltender Alex Stalock from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) and reassigned goaltender Steve Michalek to Iowa. The team also announced today that defenseman Victor Bartley has been activated from injured reserve.

Stalock, 29, is 23-17-8 with a 2.28 goals-against average (GAA), a .926 save percentage (SV%) and four shutouts in 50 games with Iowa in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season. Since Jan. 25, he is 11-6-5 with a 1.90 goals against average, a .940 save percentage and two shutouts. Stalock ranks tied for third in the AHL in save percentage, fifth in minutes played, tied for sixth in shutouts, tied for ninth in goals against average and tied for 10th in wins. 

The 6-foot, 187-pound native of South St. Paul, went 1-1-0 with a 1.51 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in two starts with Minnesota this season (March 30 vs. Ottawa and April 1 at Nashville). Stalock is 25-20-7 with a 2.34 goals against, a .921 save percentage and four shutouts in 64 career NHL games with San Jose and the Wild. He is 0-1 with a 2.05 goals against and a .929 save percentage in three Stanley Cup Playoff contests. Stalock was originally drafted by San Jose in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1, 2016. He wears sweater No. 32 with the Wild.

Bartley, 29, suffered a triceps injury during the preseason and did not appear in a regular season game with Minnesota this season. The 6-foot, 215-pound native of Ottawa, Ont., has totaled 23 points (1-22=23) and 61 penalty minutes (PIM) in 121 career NHL games with Nashville and Montreal. He was signed as a free agent by Minnesota on July 1, 2016 and wears sweater No. 28 with the Wild.

Michalek, 23 (8/6/93), is 12-14-1 with a 2.65 goals-against average (GAA), a .918 save percentage (SV%) and one shutout 29 games with Iowa this season. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound native of Hartford, Conn., is 19-19-1 with a 2.64 GAA, a .916 SV% and one shutout in 43 career AHL contests with Iowa. Michalek went 21-13-3 with a 2.28 GAA, a .924 SV% and three shutouts in 37 games for Harvard (ECAC) in 2014-15 helping the Crimson win the ECAC Championship and advance to the NCAA tournament. He was selected by the Wild in the sixth round (161st overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Saint Paul and has not appeared in an NHL game.

The Iowa Wild concludes its 2016-17 season in Rockford on Apr. 15 at 7 PM.
