FARGO, ND– The Iowa Wild (1-1-0-0, 2 points) defeated the Manitoba Moose (1-1-0-0, 2 points) 2-1 on Saturday night in a preseason game at Scheels Arena. Wild forwards Mario Lucia and Chase Lang each scored 1:09 apart in the second period to break open a scoreless game and Iowa held off a late push from the Manitoba for the victory. Iowa goalies Adam Vay and Christian Frey combined for 25 saves on 26 shots, with Frey getting the win. Vay made six saves in first period of play, while Christian Frey stopped 19 in the final two periods. Manitoba goalie Eric Comrie stopped 22 shots for the loss. After a scoreless first period, Iowa goalie Christian Frey relieved Adam Vay in the Wild crease to open the middle frame. Iowa started the scoring with a pair of goals just 1:08 apart early in the second period. The Wild claimed a 1-0 lead at 5:17 as defenseman Matt Caito hit Mario Lucia with a stretch pass to center.  Lucia dropped the puck to defenseman Brennan Mennell who carried into the Manitoba zone on the right side. Mennell slipped a pass into the high slot for Lucia, who snapped a wrist shot past Eric Comrie for the 1-0 lead. The Wild crashed the net for its second goal of the evening with heavy pressure from Chase Lang and Derik Angeli. Defenseman Dylan Labbe played the puck down towards the net and Lang potted a rebound off an Angeli shot for the 2-0 lead at 6:09.

In the last minute of the third period the Moose capitalized on a late 6-on-4 power play after pulling Comrie for the extra skater. Forward Chase De Leo spoiled Iowa’s shutout bid by beating Frey at 19:24 for the 2-1 final score.
