ROSSI, WALLSTEDT NAMED TO IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROSTERS
May 8, 2023DES MOINES, Iowa – Iowa Wild forward Marco Rossi and goaltender Jesper Wallstedt will each represent their respective countries at the 2023 IIHF Men’s World Championship.
The World Championship takes place in Tampere, Finland, and Riga, Latvia from May 12-28. The 16 teams, split into Groups A and B, will play a round-robin format in the preliminary round with the top four teams from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. Sweden will play in Group B and face Canada on May 12 in the first game of the tournament, while Austria will play in Group A and begin its tournament against France on May 13.
Rossi, 21 (9/23/01), tallied 51 points (16-35=51) and 50 PIM in 53 games with Iowa this season. He ranks second on the team in points, third in assists, fourth in power-play goals (six) and fifth in shots on goal (133). Rossi was named AHL Player of the Week on Mar. 20. He has also collected one assist in 16 games with Minnesota this season. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound native of Feldkirch, Austria, owns one assist in 19 career NHL games with the Wild. Rossi has notched 104 points (34-70=104), 92 PIM and a plus-16 rating in 116 career AHL games with Iowa. He was selected by the Wild in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Wallstedt, 20, (11/14/2002), went 18-15-5 with a 2.68 goals-against average (GAA) and 0.908 save percentage (SV%) with Iowa in 2022-23. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound native of Västerås, Sweden, scored the first goal by a goaltender in Minnesota Wild organization history on Nov. 12, 2022 against the Chicago Wolves. Wallstedt earned his first professional shutout on Jan. 13, 2023 against the Grand Rapids Griffins and received AHL Goaltender of the Month honors for January. He was selected by Minnesota in the first round (20th overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.
