Sep 9, 2017

Minnesota Meets Dallas Monday at 2:30 PM

Traverse City, Mich. – The Minnesota Wild and Columbus BlueJackets met in the second game of the round-robin NHL prospects tournament in Traverse City with the Bluejackets picking up a 3-1 win. Columbus forward Hayden Hodgson scored twice and Jordan Maletta added a power-play goal as the Bluejackets improved to 2-0-0-0 in the tournament. Dante Salituro tallied Minnesota’s lone goal as the Wild fell to 1-1-0-0 in the tournament. Bluejackets goalie Ivan Kulbakov stopped 29 of 30 for the victory. Wild goalie Dereck Baribeau made 21 saves in the loss. Minnesota plays its third game of the tournament on Monday at 2:30 PM CT versus the Dallas Stars prospects.

After a scoreless first period of play, the BlueJackets claimed a 1-0 lead with an early power-play tally by Jordan Maletta to start the second period. Calvin Thurkauf snapped a shot towards the Wild net and the puck was deflected by a Minnesota defender. The puck landed by the skates of Maletta in the slot and fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of Dereck Baribeau for the 1-0 lead. Columbus took a 2-0 advantage at 8:58 as the forwards crashed the Minnesota slot and Hayden Hodgson jammed a rebound past Baribeau. Forward Paul Bittner picked up the lone assist on Columbus’ second goal of the evening. The Wild countered to split the deficit in half at 12:44. Joel Eriksson Ek played the puck to defenseman Brennan Menell at the blueline. Menell cranked a slapshot to the Columbus net that was turned away by goalie Ivan Kulbakov. Forward Dante Salituro found the rebound and put it past the Bluejackets goalie for the 2-1 score after two periods of play.

Jumpstarting a rush through center, Hayden Hodgson scored his second goal of the night off a 3-on-2 rush. Hodgson used a Wild defender as a screen and snapped a wrist shot past Baribeau at 14:33 for the 3-1 final.
