WILD SHUTOUT BY HURRICANES 5-0

Minnesota Finishes Fourth in Prospects Tourney

Traverse City, Mich. – The Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes met in the third-place game at the NHL prospects tournament on Tuesday night in Traverse City with the Hurricanes posting a 5-0 win. Hurricanes goalie Callum Booth stopped all 26 shots in for the shutout.  Center Andrew Poturalksi scored twice, while defenseman Roland McKeown added a goal and an assist for Carolina to clinch third place in the tournament. Minnesota finished 2-2-0-0 in the tournament, clinching fourth overall. Wild goalie Dereck Baribeau made 29 saves in defeat.

After two scoreless periods, Carolina broke open the scoring 1:16 into the third period when Roland McKeown found a loose puck in the Minnesota slot for the 1-0 lead. McKeown rifled a wrist shot over the shoulder of Baribeau off a broken play, with assists going to Martin Necas and Janne Koukkonen. Minutes later, Andrew Poturalski scored his first of two on the evening, beating Baribeau at 3:43 for the 2-0 Hurricanes advantage. Necas and 44 each grabbed an assist on the team’s second goal of the night. Poturalski added his second goal of the evening at 9:36, pushing Carolina’s lead to 3-0. McKeown and Jake Bean each had an assist on the tally. Julian Gauthier added an empty-net goal at 17:12 for the 4-0 score. Stelio Mattheos added a late tally at 19:13 for the 5-0 final score.

The Iowa Wild plays a pair of preseason games, both will be in North Dakota against the Manitoba Moose – the Winnipeg Jets AHL affiliate. Iowa and Manitoba meet at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, ND on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.  The two teams play a second preseason game at the Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Iowa hosts its annual Green-White scrimmage at Wells Fargo Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m.
